Facility Staff (Leader)

Reporting to the Rentals Coordinator, the Facility Staff Leader is a hands-on staff person assuming overall responsibility for the set up and cleaning duties and for facilitating use of the National Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre.  This is a permanent, part-time position, Monday-Friday evenings (5:00-10:00pm approximately) with some weekend work. The candidate must be available to work late nights, often past 10:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for facility room setup and cleanup (including light manual labour), staff training and supervision, and some customer service and administrative duties.
1. Facility Rentals
• Overseeing setup (tables, chairs, audiovisual equipment, accessories) and cleanup duties for room usage and rentals.
• Ensuring that rooms are ready for next day’s rentals
• Locking up the Centre at the end of the night.

2. Facility Maintenance
• Ensuring that all equipment and items belonging to the Centre are kept in good condition.
• Ensuring that all rental rooms, storage rooms, and washrooms are clean and in working order.

3. Facility Staff
• Training and supervising casual facility staff.
• Finding short-notice replacements for staff who cannot work their shifts.
• Ensuring that staff are busy and productive

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  Must have the ability to safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position.
2.  Must possess the personal qualities and attitudes that respect and maintain the spirit, dignity and individuality of the public.
3.  Must be physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment.
4.  Must have the ability to exercise good judgment, promote harmonious working relationships with other facility personnel and create a working climate conducive to promoting confidence and cooperation.

ASSETS:
1. Minimum of two years previous building service experience preferred but not essential.
2. Building Service Workers Certificate or similar education or experience.
3. Bilingual in English and Japanese.
4. Basic First Aid Certificate.
5. Flexible to work early morning and daytime hours.

Lifting/moving of tables and chairs, some janitorial duties, customer service,
basic record keeping, computer use. Eve/Wknds, on call $8.50/hr post probation.
