Employment Opportunity for Executive Director
The mandate of the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre is to promote and work with other organizations for a better understanding and appreciation by all Canadians of Japanese Canadian culture and heritage; and an awareness by all Canadians of the contribution of Japanese Canadians to Canadian society, through the Japanese Canadian National Museum and National Nikkei Heritage Centre’s public programs, exhibits, services, publications and public use of the facilities.
We are inviting applications from interested and qualified individuals who are seeking an unique opportunity to provide leadership to the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre. Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Director is the most senior position providing strategic and operational leadership. Key accountabilities include:
• Establishing the NNM&HC’s future direction
• Setting policies
• Initiating and maintaining effective external relations
• Developing community based programs
• Managing centre and museum staff
• Overseeing facility operations
Required qualifications for this position include
• University degree, preferably in business management/administration
• 4 years’ of related experience ideally in a not for profit environment (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
• Effective human resource management experience
• Current knowledge of and proficiency with payroll, general ledger and word processing software
In addition, the successful candidate’s strengths include excellent communication and facilitation skills and a demonstrable ability to influence an environment of cooperation and respect. The ability to communicate in Japanese, while not essential, would be a definite asset.

Archivist, Japanese Canadian National Museum
An Archivist is required to maintain the archives and artifact collection at the Japanese Canadian National Museum, including receiving material for acquisition, transfer, accessioning, arranging and describing material, preservation, providing access and reference service.
Position summary
The Archivist is a senior professional staff member of the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre. The Archivist is responsible for all aspects of the archives and artifact collection, including acquisition and transfer, accession, arrangement, description, preservation, access provision and reference service. The Archivist develops archives policies (as delegated by the Directors), budgets, programs and procedures, and sees to their implementation. The Archivist researches in the archives and artifact collection for exhibitions, publications and programs, prepares project proposals and writes grant applications, trains and supervises staff including interns and volunteers, undertakes outreach and liaison with organizations and the public, and advises the Manager on communications, information systems and equipment related to the archives operation and programs. The Archivist works together with other Museum and Centre staff such as the Program Coordinator, Museum Assistant, project staff and volunteers, and reports to the Manager.
Job requirements
• Degree in Archival Studies or equivalent
education and experience
• Knowledge of Canadian history including history
of Nikkei in Canada
• Minimum two years experience in an archives,
museum, or library
This position is 28 hours/week

Lifting/moving of tables and chairs, some janitorial duties, customer service,
basic record keeping, computer use. Eve/Wknds, on call $8.50/hr post probation.
