Nikkei Place Foundation
THE YEAR IS 2020 AT NIKKEI PLACE. You walk through the sunny, lush Nikkei Garden into a space, large and welcoming. Visitors of all ages with an interest in Japanese-Canadian heritage are engaged in many diverse activities. In an interactive gallery called VisionForward, a school group is learning about the Japanese Internment experience through a hands-on exhibit. At the same time, a lunchtime gathering of professionals in a multi-purpose lecture space listens to a nisei artist talk about the life experience that brought her to a new, exciting plateau with her work. Meanwhile, an international tour group marvels at the breadth of the Museum’s permanent collection chronicling the history of Japanese Canadians from the pioneering issei days to the modern era. A university student working on an assignment paper views the latest traveling exhibit before it embarks on a national tour.

This long-term vision, however, cannot be realized without immediate help of our friends. In order to secure the funds to realize the potential of developing the space and programming, the Nikkei Place Foundation is launching a Bequest Program called Stepping Stones to the Future.
Benefits for All
The donations received in the Stepping Stones to the Future campaign will go to the Legacy Endowment Fund and benefit children, college students, parents, seniors, neighbours, businesses, community organizations and visitors from around the world in perpetuity. It will:
• Create a cultural hub of energy and activity for the community and the region
• Preserve and protect Nikkei Home, New Sakura-so, The National Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre and Nikkei Garden
• Seed new seniors community outreach programs
• Strengthen the Museum’s collaboration with schools across the country
• Serve as a vital component in the regions economic development and tourism expansion
You can be part of this magic by committing your resources to provide Stepping Stones to the Future.
The Need for an Estate Plan
Estate planning is the process of deciding what happens to your possessions after your lifetime and how they will be passed onto your beneficiaries. Everyone needs an estate plan. Even though you may not have many assets or you are young, it is important to arrange for careful handling and disposition of your estate. In examining one’s financial affairs, most people find that their estate is larger than they think.
A professional advisor can help you decide how you would like to structure your will – a financial planner, lawyer, accountant, trust officer, or insurance agent. They can tell you about the tax benefits of planning a gift – how to maximize tax savings, plan for your children and work toward a secure retirement.
Nikkei Place Foundation can assist you in finding a professional who specializes in charitable or planned giving.
